There are many events in October for Breast Cancer Awareness month. For years I have played in a golf tournament, RALLY FOR THE CURE , sponsored by local golf clubs and Golf for Women magazine that benefited the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
This terrible disease has become a manageable disease due to the generosity of doctors, donors and volunteers. I
golf with some remarkable women and survivors. Their hard work and
determination made this the most successful tournament ever raising over
$34,000.00 in one day!!!
The
course was decked out in pink ribbons, tee boxes adorned with many hole
sponsors, some in memorial, some for survivors. We were honored with
the presence of Tiffany Keele Grana, west coast manager of Golf for Women
magazine. Many pitched in to make this a success, but I want to thank
Dee Fairbanks, Leslie Fair, Diane Perez, Leandra Matter, Vangie
Butler, Pam Canter and Cissy Jordan for their hard, hard work.
The silent auction had much to
offer including 10 different rounds of golf, a family portrait, wine
baskets, spa baskets, golf clubs and some members donate their vacation
homes for the live auction that netted a ton of money.
So many people donated wine and champagne for the tables, decorated the beautiful room,
put together a video to show correct examination for early detection
and another video saluting those who have passed and those who have
survived cancer. What a fabulous day for a great cause. I am proud to
call these wonderful people my friends who strive to make a difference.
