Last Sunday my friend Marni McGee organized a wonderful charity event, StoryFaire to benefit Storyteller Children's Center.
Storyteller provides quality, tuition-free
early childhood education for homeless and at-risk children as well as support services for their families.
From right to left is Marni, me and the Cat in the Hat, who is a Santa Barbara city councilman.
What a great day this was. 175 people attended and the event netted close to 12 grand!!!!
There was so much to do and see. Balloons, crafts and ice cream for the kids. A silent auction of donated art from children's books
A wonderful turnout of volunteers from the SCBWI community. Ellen Kelley, Mary Hanson, Val Hobbs and Marni McGee signing their books and performing. Judith & Michael Thompson collecting
books and gifts for the raffle. Gwen Dandridge donating handmade stuff toys and pillows for the silent auction.
Many more of the local community helping out, donating goods and time.
What a fabulous event with all the proceeds going to the center. This is due to one individual, Marni McGee.
Thank you Marni for reminding us all that it doesn't take much to give back, go forward and make a difference.
If you didn't make it and want to donate contact Storyteller.

I'm really happy about the way StoryFaire 2007 turned out, but it wasn't really just me doing the work. Storyteller's staff, especially a young woman named Jenny Edwards, worked very hard. Storyteller handled most of the graphics work, publicity, invitations. . . all sorts of things. And the other authors were wonderful. For example, Mary provided a beautiful backdrop that she had painted several years ago, which worked perfectly for our needs. She also made great signs that we can save and use again. Ellen sang with her usual style and applomb. AND 16 generous authors donated books for the raffle baskets. That was fabulous, and the raffle made lots of money for Storyteller. The Thank-You list is wonderfully long!
