When I was just Al's girlfriend and not yet his wife, he bribed me into learning his favorite past-time, golf. I thought it was a game for old folks who had nothing better to do, but, boy, was I wrong. It is a sport of discipline, etiquette and skill.
It took me nearly five years to finally beat him at his own game.
Naturally, like all things in my life, it spilled into my work. I did a series of giant wall size golf landscapes.
This week is the most prestigious of all golf tournaments, the Masters. The golfer wins, money, a trophy that is a silver replica of the southern plantation club house but most important the legendary green jacket. It is an invitational, which means golfer have to be invited to attend. This is considered the most difficult sporting event to get into. We were lucky and my husband had an in for tickets. I thought I'd get great pictures to use for my series, but, as it turned out, no cameras or camcorders are allowed. Of course, that didn't stop me from quickly jotting down sketches of different holes in my trusty sketchbook. These came in very handy when I was commissioned by HGTV last year to paint Augusta's signature hole.
