Illustrator and author Nicole Rubel is is one of those talented artist whose work not only graces children's books but also animated series. I give you Nicole Rubel.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST START ILLUSTRATING FOR KIDS?
I received an assignment in my last semester of art school. My teacher asked everyone to draw someone over and over for three months. I chose my goldfish.
My teacher and classmates felt the resulting artwork resembled children’s books. My next assignment was to go look at children’s books. I discovered George and Martha by James Marshall and knew I wanted to illustrate children’s books.
WHAT ADVICES WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWLY PUBLISHED ARTIST?
Work on your writing if you are an illustrator. It’s magical to write and illustrate a children’s book.
NAME SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOKS.
The Stupids by James Marshall is very funny. I also love Dogzilla by Dav Pilkey.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
Currently I’m working on a sequel to my funny novel “It’s Hot and Cold in Miami,” and Halloween picture book.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT?
My favorite dessert is an apple pie made from Rome Beauty apples.
